A.Because there were sleeping pills.

A sleeping pill is what they give people to make them go to sleep, like when they are going to have a surgery. They are a kind of anesthesia. You keep them in a medical cabinet. The joke uses a pun (sleeping pills, in the joke means pills that are sleeping.) I hope that helped!
